Stephen Edelson at The Asbury Park Press says the upcoming 2006 golf season is the one you've been waiting for. With four months worth of opportunities to view the finest players on the world, regional and local stages, it's the finest viewing schedule for area fans in recent memory.
He notes the following professional events in the NY/NJ area for 2006:
- U.S. Open at Winged Foot Golf Club June 15-18
- ShopRite LPGA Classic June 2-4 at Seaview Marriott Bay Course, Annika Sorenstam will be there to defend
- U.S. Open Qualifier June 5 at Canoe Brook in Summit
- Barclay's Classic at Westchester Country Club in Harrison, N.Y. on June 8.
As well as other local events:
- New Jersey State Golf Association's Amateur Championship at Deal Golf and Country Club in Ocean Township June 6-8
- NJSGA Public Links Championship at Hominy Hill Golf Course in Colts Neck July 27
- New Jersey PGA section championship at Manasquan River Sept. 19-21
- Metropolitan Golf Association Amateur Championship at Baltusrol Aug. 3-6
- Metropolitan Golf Association Open at Canoe Brook Aug. 22-24.
