Asbury Park Press on the “range finder rule”: …just in case you have a guilty conscience, you likely won't have to worry about range finders anymore. They're basically legal now unless you're informed otherwise… If you're playing a public facility, just figure you're good to go with your range finder. At private clubs, you'd better check the local rules.
