Ed Whitman always will have a chance to win, as long as one of his three sons is by his side. The head pro from Knickerbocker Country Club in Tenafly can challenge for an unprecedented fifth State Open title because his youngest son, Eric, will be his caddie for the three-day event that begins Tuesday at Fairmount in Chatham. Whitman won a record-tying fourth New Jersey State Golf Association Open title last year largely because Eric provided his dad with the emotional stability that brothers Chris and Brian offered before him.
