Since its inception in 1991, The Polar Bear Open has served as the Golf Mission's season opener, and a reunion of sorts for many hard-core golfers who participate in this annual winter passage. This event always attracts the most fervent Missioneers who battle for the coveted Polar Bear awards engaging in a contest of “Survival of the Fittest” where those with the strongest will to win find a way to conquer adversity. Typically, the Polar Bear Open kicked off the season in mid to early March, and this season we throw you a bone with the late March start.

Sea Oaks Golf Club located in Little Egg Harbor Township, NJ opened in 2000 to very enthusiastic reviews, and this pretty 18-hole championship golf course has the tendency to pump you up upon arrival as you drive through the entrance. The course has the distinct features and challenges of a links course, is very playable, and was designed by Ray Hearn, a well renowned mid-western golf architect. The layout was constructed over 194 acres of natural terrain in the Pine Barrens, and is very pleasing to the eye.  The most unique feature here are the enormous greens, which average over 10,000 square feet, and have built into them some very wicked undulations.  Their practice facility is top shelf, and the 23,000 square foot clubhouse is quite impressive. The food here is very good, and it attracts a large constituency of non-golfers who dine here. The clubhouse bar and restaurant is well suited for a season opening event where many players may choose to hang out after golf, and enjoy some cold drinks, and dinner.
