Gaffney, the head pro at Rumson Country Club, won the 90th State Open on Friday in a three-hole aggregate playoff over Garden State newcomer Bobby Gage of Forsgate. The soft-spoken and popular Gaffney, a two-time runner-up, won the playoff, 11-12, by going birdie, par, bogey at Spring Brook CC and collected the winner’s check for $15,000.
